[00:00.00]The Asian American population is growing faster
[00:05.56]than any other major ethnic or racial group.
[00:10.16]From 2010 to 2016, 42 percent of the 8.1 million people
[00:18.33]who came to the United States from a foreign country were from Asia.
[00:24.47]Thirty-eight percent came from Latin America,
[00:28.08]8.6 percent from Europe, and 8 percent from Africa.
[00:34.69]This information comes from a new U.S. Census Bureau report.
[00:40.82]For 2016, the U.S. Census Bureau said Asian Americans
[00:46.73]had the highest median annual income of all ethnic and racial groups.
[00:53.18]The median income for Asians was $81,431, about the same as 2015.
[01:03.45]That compared to a median income of $59,039 for all Americans.
[01:12.12]Pew said the U.S. Asian population is also better educated.
[01:18.15]About half of Asians 25 and older have a college degree.
[01:24.16]That compares to 30 percent among all Americans over age 25, Pew said.
[01:32.29]Along with education, the Pew study also noted
[01:37.07]a high level of English language skill among Asians.
[01:41.25]Seven of 10 Asians in the United States, ages 5 and up,
[01:46.99]speak English proficiently, the study said.
[01:50.18]U.S.-born Asian Americans are more likely to speak English well than foreign-born Asians.
[01:58.28]Stephanie Wong is chapter and membership associate
[02:03.11]with OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates.
[02:08.05]She said the information from the Census Bureau is somewhat misleading
[02:13.74]because it puts Asian Americans from many different backgrounds into one group.
[02:20.06]"The Asian American population is very diverse," Wong said.
[02:26.07]She suspects some Asian Americans do not receive public or private assistance
[02:33.28]because of the mistaken belief all Asian Americans are doing well economically.
[02:40.57]To point out the diverse economic backgrounds of Asian Americans,
[02:46.53]the Pew Research Center looked at income levels for people from different Asian countries.
[02:53.84]In 2015, it said that Indian American households had a median income of $100,000,
[03:03.06]the highest among Asian Americans.
[03:06.09]For Filipino-Americans, the median household income was $80,000.
[03:12.73]But the Pew report said eight of the 19 Asian groups it examined
[03:18.87]had higher poverty rates than the U.S. average.
[03:23.57]They included the Hmong, Bhutanese and Burmese.
[03:28.69]The Asian American population now stands just short of 21 million people,
[03:35.90]the Census Bureau reported.
[03:38.09]That represents just over 6 percent of the American population.
[03:43.89]In a recent report, the Pew Research Center said Asian Americans
[03:49.79]likely will become the largest immigrant group in the United States.
[03:54.44]In 50 years, Asians should make up 38 percent of all U.S. immigrants,
[04:02.20]overtaking the current largest immigrant group, Hispanics, the Pew Center said.
[04:09.05]William Frey researches urban populations,
[04:13.44]immigration and other issues for the Brookings Institution,
[04:18.58]a research center based in Washington D.C.
[04:22.29]He said immigration policies that support educated immigrants are likely to help Asians.
[04:30.39]But he said changes in American immigration policy
[04:34.65]could affect immigration from Asia, as well as other parts of the world.
[04:40.16]President Donald Trump and some Republicans in Congress have proposed a bill
[04:46.58]calling on America to reduce the number of legal immigrants admitted into the U.S. each year.
[04:53.74]They also want to give a preference to well-educated immigrants and/or those with job offers.
[05:02.65]Asian American people come from more than 20 countries in East
[05:08.61]and Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
[05:13.86]Each has its own history, language and culture.
[05:19.03]Some of the biggest growth came from Bhutan,
[05:23.52]Nepal and Burma, the Pew center reported.
[05:28.15]But China continues to be the largest country of origin for Asian Americans.
[05:34.60]Chinese Americans numbered 4.9 million in 2015,
[05:40.48]or 24 percent of Asian Americans, Pew reported.
[05:45.23]Pew said that India is number two,
[05:49.51]with nearly 4 million people listing it as their country of origin.
[05:54.92]The other leading countries of origin for Asian Americans are the Philippines, 3.9 million;
[06:02.34]Vietnam, nearly 2 million; Korea, 1.8 million; Japan, 1.4 million; and Pakistan, 519,000.

END OF TRACK. "END OF TRACK." The two men bowed. "Whoever was that person you were talking to?" she enquired, as soon as they stood together. The took of triumph faded from her eyes, she had grown worn and weary. The roses were wilting on the walls, the lights were mostly down now. Hetty, looking in to see if anything was wanted, found herself driven away almost fiercely. I only saw Master Jervie once when he called at tea time, The year 1747 was opened by measures of restriction. The House of Lords, offended at the publication of the proceedings of the trial of Lord Lovat, summoned the parties to their bar, committed them to prison, and refused to liberate them till they had pledged themselves not to repeat the offence, and had paid very heavy fees. The consequence of this was that the transactions of the Peers were almost entirely suppressed for nearly thirty years from this time, and we draw our knowledge of them chiefly from notes taken by Horace Walpole and Lord Chancellor Hardwicke. What is still more remarkable, the reports of the House of Commons, being taken by stealth, and on the merest sufferance, are of the most meagre kind, sometimes altogether wanting, and the speeches are given uniformly under fictitious names; for to have attributed to Pitt or Pelham their[112] speeches by name would have brought down on the printers the summary vengeance of the House. Many of the members complained bitterly of this breach of the privileges of Parliament, and of "being put into print by low fellows"; but Pelham had the sense to tolerate them, saying, "Let them alone; they make better speeches for us than we can make for ourselves." Altogether, the House of Commons exhibited the most deplorable aspect that can be conceived. The Ministry had pursued Walpole's system of buying up opponents by place, or pension, or secret service money, till there was no life left in the House. Ministers passed their measures without troubling themselves to say much in their behalf; and the opposition dwindled to Sir John Hinde Cotton, now dismissed from office, and a feeble remnant of Jacobites raised but miserable resistance. In vain the Prince of Wales and the secret instigations of Bolingbroke and Doddington stimulated the spirit of discontent; both Houses had degenerated into most silent and insignificant arenas of very commonplace business. "It certainly will be. Miss Widgeon," answered Maria, with strictly "company manners." "One who has never had a brother exposed to the constant dangers of army life can hardly understand how glad we all feel to have Si snatched from the very jaws of death and brung back to us." "Just plug at 'em as you would at a crow, and then go on your way whistlin'?" persisted Harry. "Hurroo!" echoed Hennessey; "that's the ticket." "Come forward, keeper," continued the baron, "and state how these arrows came into your hands!" "Yes." HoMEJULIA京香2018下载
