[00:05.80]from former President Barack Obama's administration
[00:10.44]to fill top national security positions.
[00:15.44]The six named included Antony Blinken
[00:19.60]to be secretary of state for the incoming administration
[00:24.44]and Jake Sullivan as National Security Adviser.
[00:30.20]Biden also named Avril Haines to serve as director of national intelligence.
[00:38.40]She would be the first woman to hold that position.

[00:51.40]The choices signal a sharp break from President Donald Trump's
[00:56.52]"America First" policies that reshaped international alliances
[01:02.64]and agreements often causing tensions.
[01:07.08]Blinken is a longtime Biden foreign policy adviser.
[01:12.48]He served in the second highest position at the State Department.
[01:17.88]He also was deputy national security adviser
[01:22.20]under President Barack Obama, while Biden was vice president.
[01:28.88]Blinken and Sullivan have helped Biden form a plan
[01:33.24]that will include immediate talks with American allies.
[01:38.24]Reports say the plan calls for working with other countries
[01:43.72]on worldwide problems like the coronavirus crisis
[01:48.56]and the economic damage it has caused.
[01:53.08]Biden has promised to rejoin a nuclear deal with Iran
[01:57.84]if that country returns to compliance.

[02:10.80]He said he plans to keep the U.S. in the World Health Organization
[02:16.64]and end a U.S. rule that bans financial support

[02:25.52]Each move would cancel Trump administration policies.
[02:31.16]The 58-year-old Blinken has pushed the idea that the United States
[02:37.08]needs to take an active leadership position in the world
[02:42.28]or countries like China will do so.

[02:50.04]describe Blinken as a "diplomat's diplomat."
[02:54.76]They say he is thoughtful, relatively soft-spoken

[04:01.36]continue to dispute the results of the elections November 3.
[04:08.08]In announcing the appointments, Monday, Biden said,
