[00:00.04]At Sunday's Academy Awards, or Oscars, in Los Angeles,
[00:05.76]Angela Bassett will be one of the few Black actors
[00:10.68]considered for a major award.
[00:14.36]Bassett is nominated for a best supporting actor award
[00:19.92]for her work in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
[00:24.80]It is her second Oscar nomination
[00:27.96]in 40 years of acting in movies.
[00:32.88]At the recent African American Film Critics Association Awards,
[00:37.88]Bassett explained that every time she takes a part in a film,
[00:43.08]she wants the part to change how people think about Black women.
[00:49.76]She said she wants to "show our humanity,
[00:54.20]to tell the diversity of our stories
[00:57.92]and to share the complexity
[01:00.92]of what it means to be Black and women."
[01:05.48]The 64-year-old actor was nominated for an Oscar 29 years ago
[01:11.52]for her lead part in the 1993 film What's Love Got To Do With It.
[01:19.24]Her comments seem to represent a common thinking
[01:23.48]among many people of color in the industry:
[01:27.04]Change in support of diversity is too slow.
[01:31.76]While some improvements followed the 2015 online protest
[01:36.16]#OscarsSoWhite, activists argue, much more is required.
[01:44.04]In that year, white performers
[01:47.04]received all 20 nominations for the four acting awards.
[01:54.44]This year, no actors of color received awards
[01:58.76]at the major British film awards known as the BAFTAs.
[02:05.00]In the U.S., the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
[02:11.12]has been criticized for not nominating the movies Till
[02:16.36]or The Woman King for any of the major awards.
[02:21.68]Both are films with mainly Black casts directed by Black women.
[02:28.92]"There's a constant lack of recognition for Black female directors,"
[02:34.36]said Gina Prince-Bythewood, director of The Woman King.
[02:40.08]"There's never been a Black female director nominated
[02:44.68]in the history of the Academy Awards," she added.
[02:50.00]As a result, more Black actors, directors and producers
[02:55.80]are starting their own companies
[02:58.64]to make movies and television programs.
[03:02.84]These creators follow in the footsteps of
[03:06.24]people like Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Shonda Rhimes.
[03:12.64]The new creators include writers Amy Aniobi and Felicia Pride,
[03:19.12]actor Khalimah Gaston and filmmakers Fanny and Nelson Grande.
[03:25.84]Aniobi worked for a number of years
[03:28.92]on the successful HBO program Insecure,
[03:33.16]created by and starring Issa Rae who is Black,
[03:37.92]as were the majority of the show's main cast.
[03:43.60]Now, Aniobi has a deal with HBO to develop new shows.
[03:49.36]She says one problem is that while the number of projects
[03:54.20]for Black creators is increasing,
[03:57.52]the amount of money they get for their work is decreasing.
[04:01.88]She said one way to make sure Black creators have more work
[04:07.84]is to work with other Black producers, writers and actors.
[04:12.96]"When we are invested in each other as people,
[04:16.40]we don't think 'it's you or me.'
[04:18.84]It's for both of us or none of us," Aniobi said.
[04:23.12]Pride has written for Rhimes' television show Grey's Anatomy
[04:28.64]and worked with Oprah Winfrey as well.
[04:32.92]Now, the creator has her own company, Honey Chile.
[04:37.92]It centers on making shows and movies
[04:41.36]that will appeal to Black women over the age of 40.
[04:47.04]Gaston started a company called The Screening Room in 2016.
[04:53.84]The business creates cooperative spaces
[04:57.44]in Los Angeles and Atlanta, Georgia
[05:00.72]for diverse industry members to support each other.
[05:05.80]Black Entertainment Network, or BET,
[05:09.56]recently picked up a web series presented by the company.
[05:15.36]In addition to those who want to tell Black stories,
[05:19.60]there are also producers who want to tell Latino stories.
[05:26.00]Fanny and Nelson Grande
[05:28.52]started a company called Avenida Productions
[05:32.08]to help make films and programs
[05:35.24]with Latino actors and producers.
[05:39.88]"Every Latino actor I've met has dealt with the same thing
[05:44.76]of not getting opportunities,
[05:47.20]or having to play negative stereotypes...," Fanny Grande said.
[05:53.16]When no production companies gave her a chance,
[05:57.32]she sought financing through crowdfunding within her community.
[06:03.48]The result, a 2021 film Homebound,
[06:08.40]that centered on the life of a Latin American family.
[06:13.20]I'm Caty Weaver.
[06:14.76]And I'm Dan Friedell. 更多听力请访问21VOA.COM
END OF TRACK. "END OF TRACK." The two men bowed. "Whoever was that person you were talking to?" she enquired, as soon as they stood together. The took of triumph faded from her eyes, she had grown worn and weary. The roses were wilting on the walls, the lights were mostly down now. Hetty, looking in to see if anything was wanted, found herself driven away almost fiercely. I only saw Master Jervie once when he called at tea time, The year 1747 was opened by measures of restriction. The House of Lords, offended at the publication of the proceedings of the trial of Lord Lovat, summoned the parties to their bar, committed them to prison, and refused to liberate them till they had pledged themselves not to repeat the offence, and had paid very heavy fees. The consequence of this was that the transactions of the Peers were almost entirely suppressed for nearly thirty years from this time, and we draw our knowledge of them chiefly from notes taken by Horace Walpole and Lord Chancellor Hardwicke. What is still more remarkable, the reports of the House of Commons, being taken by stealth, and on the merest sufferance, are of the most meagre kind, sometimes altogether wanting, and the speeches are given uniformly under fictitious names; for to have attributed to Pitt or Pelham their[112] speeches by name would have brought down on the printers the summary vengeance of the House. Many of the members complained bitterly of this breach of the privileges of Parliament, and of "being put into print by low fellows"; but Pelham had the sense to tolerate them, saying, "Let them alone; they make better speeches for us than we can make for ourselves." Altogether, the House of Commons exhibited the most deplorable aspect that can be conceived. The Ministry had pursued Walpole's system of buying up opponents by place, or pension, or secret service money, till there was no life left in the House. Ministers passed their measures without troubling themselves to say much in their behalf; and the opposition dwindled to Sir John Hinde Cotton, now dismissed from office, and a feeble remnant of Jacobites raised but miserable resistance. In vain the Prince of Wales and the secret instigations of Bolingbroke and Doddington stimulated the spirit of discontent; both Houses had degenerated into most silent and insignificant arenas of very commonplace business. "It certainly will be. Miss Widgeon," answered Maria, with strictly "company manners." "One who has never had a brother exposed to the constant dangers of army life can hardly understand how glad we all feel to have Si snatched from the very jaws of death and brung back to us." "Just plug at 'em as you would at a crow, and then go on your way whistlin'?" persisted Harry. "Hurroo!" echoed Hennessey; "that's the ticket." "Come forward, keeper," continued the baron, "and state how these arrows came into your hands!" "Yes." HoMEJULIA京香2018下载
