[00:12.60]The guitarist was a founding member of the Eagles. [00:17.68]The popular Los Angeles-based band formed in 1971. [00:23.92]Many years later it still performs sold-out shows in large centers. [00:30.76]Frey died Monday in New York City. [00:34.92]A band statement said the musician died [00:38.52]from a combination of several diseases [00:41.40]including rheumatoid arthritis. [00:45.44]Bandmate Don Henley says Frey was like a brother to him. [00:50.36]Frey "started it all,'' Henley said. [00:54.44]He called him "the spark plug, the man with the plan.'' [01:00.36]Henley said Frey had "an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music [01:05.48]and a work ethic that wouldn't quit.'' [01:09.40]An Eagles greatest hits collection from the mid-1970s [01:14.08]and "Hotel California'' are among the best-selling albums in history.
