[00:09.28]as recorded by the U.S. Captioning Company.

[00:17.80]to live events on television and in courtrooms.
[00:22.32]A caption is a sentence or group of words
[00:26.44]written on or next to a picture to explain what is being shown.
[00:32.52]Similarly, subtitles are words that appear on the screen during a movie,
[00:38.60]video or television show that are translations of what people are saying.
[00:45.48]The U.S. Captioning Company list identifies the words
[00:49.76]that proved most tricky for newsreaders
[00:53.00]and people on television to pronounce this year.
[00:57.88]The caption company said it surveyed its members to create the list.
[01:05.00]Now in its fifth year, the list was commissioned by Babbel,
[01:10.32]a language-learning application company.
[01:14.64]Todd Ehresmann is a language expert at Babbel.
[01:19.60]He said the list shows a year ruled by presidential politics
[01:24.56]and the coronavirus pandemic.
[01:27.84]"All of these have added some new phrases to our national vocabulary,
[01:33.00]which may take some practice," he said.

[02:03.56]The name in English means "a group of bulletproof boys"
[02:08.44]or "bulletproof boy scouts."
[02:13.76]Giannis Antetokounmpo (YON-nis AHN-de-doh-KOON-boh):
[02:15.96]A Greek professional basketball player
[02:18.84]who plays for the National Basketball Association's Milwaukee Bucks.
[02:25.20]He was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player this year.
