[00:00.04]Technology company Microsoft
[00:02.84]is working with the Roman Catholic Church
[00:06.84]to create a detailed, digital version
[00:10.84]of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
[00:15.64]The project aims to give people
[00:19.40]a new way to experience the famous building,
[00:23.84]which sits in the Catholic Church's spiritual
[00:28.32]and administrative center in Rome.
[00:31.92]Roman Catholic leaders recently joined
[00:36.00]Microsoft's President Brad Smith
[00:39.72]to present the new digital creation to the public.
[00:44.68]The official launch of the system
[00:48.08]has been set for December 1.
[00:51.28]It will permit individuals
[00:53.72]to explore St. Peter's Basilica online
[00:58.24]and provide interactive experiences
[01:01.96]for all visitors to the Vatican.
[01:05.20]The effort involved drones
[01:08.52]flying around the empty basilicafor four weeks
[01:13.48]to capture images of all parts of the building.
[01:17.64]The drones – equipped with many cameras and lasers
[01:23.04]– took more than 400,000 high-quality pictures.
[01:28.52]The process used artificial intelligence (AI) methods
[01:34.36]to create a complete 3D copy of the basilica.
[01:39.68]One goal of the project was to provide a way
[01:44.52]for anyone in the world to have the chance
[01:48.12]to "visit" the church and learn about its history.
[01:52.40]Microsoft chief Smith told a press conference
[01:57.32]at Vatican City the project represented
[02:01.32]"one of the most technologically advanced
[02:05.20]and sophisticated projects
[02:08.12]of its kind" ever carried out.
[02:11.40]Cardinal Mauro Gambetti
[02:14.52]is the Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica.
[02:18.52]He praised the new technology at the press conference.
[02:23.84]Gambetti compared the highly detailed
[02:27.20]digital experience to looking up
[02:30.52]at a "starry sky on a summer night."
[02:34.40]He added, "The new tools act like a telescope
[02:39.04]or spaceship for better viewing."
[02:42.68]The project was launched ahead of the Vatican's
[02:47.00]2025 Jubilee celebration.
[02:51.12]This marks a holy year at the Vatican
[02:55.32]when more than 30 million worshippers
[02:58.52]are expected to visit the basilica.
[03:01.96]This will be in addition to the 50,000 people
[03:06.80]who visit on a normal day.
[03:09.32]The basilica will celebrate
[03:12.16]its 400th anniversary in 2026.
[03:16.76]The Associated Press reported
[03:20.44]Pope Francis visited Smith
[03:23.24]and the project's development teams at the Vatican.
[03:28.40]He said the effort should help everyone
[03:32.12]"feel welcome in this great house."
[03:35.44]The pope added that the project
[03:38.52]was a way to recognize
[03:40.80]and continue to celebrate
[03:43.48]the Vatican's rich spiritual history.
[03:47.48]"...It is a gift and a task to care for it,
[03:52.32]in both a spiritual and material sense,
[03:56.48]even through the latest technologies," he said.
[04:01.40]Pope Francis has warned
[04:04.20]that AI should only be used in ethical ways.
[04:09.20]In his World Message of Peace this year,
[04:13.20]he proposed an international treaty
[04:16.28]to control, or regulate, the technology.
[04:20.40]He argued that AI systems lack
[04:24.04]human values and could cause great harm.
[04:28.44]The digital system permits visitors
[04:32.52]to request entry times to the basilica.
[04:36.64]This could be a welcome change for visitors
[04:40.52]used to waiting in lines for hours
[04:43.72]to get into the basilica,
[04:45.80]which is one of the world's most visited buildings.
[04:49.92]The collected images have already identified
[04:54.16]structural damage and signs of deterioration.
[04:59.48]Experts said the technology
[05:02.36]can find such problems much faster
[05:06.00]and more effectively than human workers.
[05:10.00]Vatican officials plan to use the images
[05:14.48]to continually identify areas needing repairs.
[05:20.00]Smith did not say how much Microsoft
[05:24.20]had invested in the project.
[05:26.84]But he said the idea came after Pope Francis
[05:31.36]urged technology companies in 2018
[05:35.44]to come together to use AI
[05:38.60]for cultural purposes.
[05:41.04]Smith noted his company had also completed
[05:45.84]similar AI projects at Mont Saint-Michel in France
[05:51.08]and for Ancient Olympia in Greece.

END OF TRACK. "END OF TRACK." The two men bowed. "Whoever was that person you were talking to?" she enquired, as soon as they stood together. The took of triumph faded from her eyes, she had grown worn and weary. The roses were wilting on the walls, the lights were mostly down now. Hetty, looking in to see if anything was wanted, found herself driven away almost fiercely. I only saw Master Jervie once when he called at tea time, The year 1747 was opened by measures of restriction. The House of Lords, offended at the publication of the proceedings of the trial of Lord Lovat, summoned the parties to their bar, committed them to prison, and refused to liberate them till they had pledged themselves not to repeat the offence, and had paid very heavy fees. The consequence of this was that the transactions of the Peers were almost entirely suppressed for nearly thirty years from this time, and we draw our knowledge of them chiefly from notes taken by Horace Walpole and Lord Chancellor Hardwicke. What is still more remarkable, the reports of the House of Commons, being taken by stealth, and on the merest sufferance, are of the most meagre kind, sometimes altogether wanting, and the speeches are given uniformly under fictitious names; for to have attributed to Pitt or Pelham their[112] speeches by name would have brought down on the printers the summary vengeance of the House. Many of the members complained bitterly of this breach of the privileges of Parliament, and of "being put into print by low fellows"; but Pelham had the sense to tolerate them, saying, "Let them alone; they make better speeches for us than we can make for ourselves." Altogether, the House of Commons exhibited the most deplorable aspect that can be conceived. The Ministry had pursued Walpole's system of buying up opponents by place, or pension, or secret service money, till there was no life left in the House. Ministers passed their measures without troubling themselves to say much in their behalf; and the opposition dwindled to Sir John Hinde Cotton, now dismissed from office, and a feeble remnant of Jacobites raised but miserable resistance. In vain the Prince of Wales and the secret instigations of Bolingbroke and Doddington stimulated the spirit of discontent; both Houses had degenerated into most silent and insignificant arenas of very commonplace business. "It certainly will be. Miss Widgeon," answered Maria, with strictly "company manners." "One who has never had a brother exposed to the constant dangers of army life can hardly understand how glad we all feel to have Si snatched from the very jaws of death and brung back to us." "Just plug at 'em as you would at a crow, and then go on your way whistlin'?" persisted Harry. "Hurroo!" echoed Hennessey; "that's the ticket." "Come forward, keeper," continued the baron, "and state how these arrows came into your hands!" "Yes." HoMEJULIA京香2018下载
