[00:00.04]Israel's fast vaccination effort
[00:03.28]is providing important information about
[00:06.44]drug company Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine.
[00:11.28]Reporters with the Reuters news agency spoke
[00:15.24]to leading scientists in Israel and other places,
[00:20.00]Israeli health officials, hospital heads
[00:24.08]and two of the country's largest healthcare providers.
[00:28.76]The aim was to find the latest information
[00:32.92]about the country's especially fast vaccination campaign.
[00:39.16]About 3.5 million Israelis have been fully or partly vaccinated.
[00:46.44]That is more than half of people
[00:49.52]who are in groups that are supposed to be vaccinated first.
[00:55.00]These groups are showing a sharp drop in infections.
[01:01.12]Eran Segal is a data scientist
[01:05.52]at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel.
[01:12.16]He said there was a 53 percent reduction in new cases
[01:18.52]in the first fully vaccinated group.
[01:22.80]In addition, there were 39 percent fewer hospitalizations
[01:28.60]and a 31 percent drop in severe illnesses
[01:32.88]from the middle of January until February 6, Segal said.
[01:39.92]More information will be known in two weeks,
[01:43.48]as teams study the vaccine's effectiveness
[01:47.60]in younger groups of Israelis and people with certain conditions.
[01:54.20]"We need to have enough variety of people in that subgroup
[01:59.12]and enough follow-up time so you can make the right conclusions,
[02:04.56]and we are getting to that point," said Ran Balicer.
[02:10.28]He is an official with the Israeli health services provider Clalit.
[02:16.96]Pfizer is watching the Israeli effort each week
[02:20.76]to understand more about the vaccine and how it is working.
[02:27.28]Israel's campaign provides Pfizer and its partner,
[02:32.12]Germany's BioNTech, with an unusual chance.
[02:38.56]The small country has healthcare for all its citizens,
[02:43.48]and the ability to gather and study data.
[02:47.32]Israel also has quickly provided the vaccine to its citizens.
[02:54.28]Israel still faces struggles in its effort to fight the virus.
[02:59.44]The country's third national lockdown
[03:02.88]has not slowed the spread of COVID-19.
[03:07.24]A fast-spreading variant of the virus
[03:11.12]that was first found in Britain is now spreading in Israel.
[03:17.12]So far, the Pfizer/BioNTech shot
[03:21.40]appears to be effective against it.
[03:25.04]"We've so far identified the same 90 percent
[03:29.60]to 95 percent efficacy against the British strain," said Hezi Levi.
[03:37.16]He is a director-general of the Israeli Health Ministry.
[03:42.84]The Pfizer vaccine requires two doses, or shots, to be effective.
[03:50.12]For this reason, Levi said it is too early
[03:54.00]to know about levels of protection
[03:57.56]because many people only received the second dose in the last week.
[04:04.56]He added that it is still too early to know
[04:08.24]whether the vaccine is effective
[04:10.72]against another fast-spreading virus variant
[04:14.44]that began in South Africa.
[04:18.24]Israel began its vaccination program on December 19.
[04:24.28]It paid a high price for supplies of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
[04:30.48]Four days later, the fast-spreading British variant
[04:35.60]was found in four people in Israel.
[04:39.92]After that, Israel decided to begin giving shots
[04:44.48]to people over the age of 60.
[04:48.00]Over time, it has opened the program to the rest of the population.
[04:54.20]Information gathered by Israeli healthcare provider Maccabi
[04:59.72]shows that only six out of every 10,000 people got infected with COVID-19
[05:07.32]one week after receiving their second Pfizer dose.
[05:12.56]By 22 days after full vaccination, no infections were recorded.
[05:20.96]Pfizer says its vaccine's effectiveness
[05:24.64]starts one week after the second dose is given.
[05:28.84]One important question is whether vaccines can end the pandemic.
[05:36.60]Michal Linial is a professor of molecular biology
[05:42.12]and bioinformatics at Jerusalem's Hebrew University.
[05:49.08]She said data from the past
[05:52.04]suggests that viruses become endemic and seasonal.
[05:58.16]She predicted the coronavirus would become far less aggressive,
[06:03.88]possibly requiring an additional shot within three years.
[06:09.68]She added, "The virus is not going anywhere."

END OF TRACK. "END OF TRACK." The two men bowed. "Whoever was that person you were talking to?" she enquired, as soon as they stood together. The took of triumph faded from her eyes, she had grown worn and weary. The roses were wilting on the walls, the lights were mostly down now. Hetty, looking in to see if anything was wanted, found herself driven away almost fiercely. I only saw Master Jervie once when he called at tea time, The year 1747 was opened by measures of restriction. The House of Lords, offended at the publication of the proceedings of the trial of Lord Lovat, summoned the parties to their bar, committed them to prison, and refused to liberate them till they had pledged themselves not to repeat the offence, and had paid very heavy fees. The consequence of this was that the transactions of the Peers were almost entirely suppressed for nearly thirty years from this time, and we draw our knowledge of them chiefly from notes taken by Horace Walpole and Lord Chancellor Hardwicke. What is still more remarkable, the reports of the House of Commons, being taken by stealth, and on the merest sufferance, are of the most meagre kind, sometimes altogether wanting, and the speeches are given uniformly under fictitious names; for to have attributed to Pitt or Pelham their[112] speeches by name would have brought down on the printers the summary vengeance of the House. Many of the members complained bitterly of this breach of the privileges of Parliament, and of "being put into print by low fellows"; but Pelham had the sense to tolerate them, saying, "Let them alone; they make better speeches for us than we can make for ourselves." Altogether, the House of Commons exhibited the most deplorable aspect that can be conceived. The Ministry had pursued Walpole's system of buying up opponents by place, or pension, or secret service money, till there was no life left in the House. Ministers passed their measures without troubling themselves to say much in their behalf; and the opposition dwindled to Sir John Hinde Cotton, now dismissed from office, and a feeble remnant of Jacobites raised but miserable resistance. In vain the Prince of Wales and the secret instigations of Bolingbroke and Doddington stimulated the spirit of discontent; both Houses had degenerated into most silent and insignificant arenas of very commonplace business. "It certainly will be. Miss Widgeon," answered Maria, with strictly "company manners." "One who has never had a brother exposed to the constant dangers of army life can hardly understand how glad we all feel to have Si snatched from the very jaws of death and brung back to us." "Just plug at 'em as you would at a crow, and then go on your way whistlin'?" persisted Harry. "Hurroo!" echoed Hennessey; "that's the ticket." "Come forward, keeper," continued the baron, "and state how these arrows came into your hands!" "Yes." HoMEJULIA京香2018下载
