[00:11.52]Woods was driving on a twisting, downhill road [00:16.04]south of Los Angeles, California, when he lost control of his car. [00:22.72]The accident happened earlier on Tuesday. [00:27.12]Woods’ car hit a sign and then rolled over many times. [00:33.20]Rescue workers used tools to remove him from the car. [00:39.28]Woods is one of the greatest golfers of all time. [00:44.16]The 45-year-old has won 15 major championships. [00:50.16]He most recently won The Masters in 2019 [00:55.36]after recovering from a back injury. [00:59.64]Anish Mahajan is the Chief Medical Officer [01:03.88]at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, [01:07.44]where Woods had his operation. [01:10.08]He said Woods suffered broken bones in his right leg [01:15.68]and required a rod to repair the damage. [01:20.28]Additional injuries in his ankle and foot [01:24.28]were repaired using screws and pins. [01:28.72]Doctors also performed surgery on his leg muscles [01:32.76]to reduce swelling from the accident. [01:37.32]Woods was on his way to an event [01:40.08]where he was to teach golf to famous people. [01:45.40]Just last weekend, [01:47.32]Woods was asked whether he might be able to play [01:51.16]in this year’s Masters tournament [01:53.80]after having back surgery in December. [01:58.04]Now the question people are asking [02:00.88]is whether he will ever be able to play the sport again. [02:06.60]Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva [02:11.36]said the area of road where Woods crashed is dangerous. [02:17.76]People are often seen driving faster than the speed limit. [02:23.96]Carlos Gonzalez is with the sheriff’s department. [02:28.32]He reached Woods after the crash [02:31.72]and was not able to help him out of the car. [02:35.28]He waited for the fire department to come with their tools. [02:41.08]“I will say it’s very fortunate Mr. Woods [02:45.76]was able to come out of this alive,” he said. [02:51.20]Many people wished Woods well in his recovery, [02:55.20]including other golfers, politicians and sports stars. [03:02.52]Golfer Jon Rahm said: [03:05.16]“I just hope he can get out of the hospital after recovery [03:09.96]and he can still play with his kids and have a normal life.” [03:16.24]Former U.S. Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama [03:21.76]have both played golf with Woods. [03:24.76]Both wished him a fast recovery. [03:28.36]Obama wrote on Twitter: [03:31.12]“If we’ve learned anything over the years, [03:34.44]it’s to never count Tiger out.” [03:38.52]A statement was published on Woods’ Twitter account [03:42.12]that said: “He is currently awake, [03:45.16]responsive and recovering in his hospital room.” [03:51.36]The statement thanked the doctors, police [03:55.04]and rescue workers who helped him on Tuesday. [04:00.04]Woods was involved in two other cases involving cars in his career. [04:06.48]In 2017, police found him asleep [04:11.04]behind the wheel of his car in Florida. [04:14.64]Woods said he had a bad reaction to prescription medicine for back pain. [04:22.32]He was arrested on the charge [04:24.80]of driving a car while affected by drugs or alcohol. [04:30.44]In 2009, he ran over a fire hydrant [04:34.92]and hit a tree after a fight with his former wife. [04:40.80]Police do not currently believe drugs or alcohol [04:44.60]played a part in Tuesday’s crash. [04:48.80]Woods last played golf in a tournament in December. [04:52.80]He took part with his 11-year-old son, Charlie. [04:57.84]I’m Dan Friedell. 更多听力请访问21VOA.COM
