[00:00.04]The pro-Palestinian protests
[00:03.28]at colleges across the United States
[00:06.52]have spread to campuses in Europe.
[00:11.04]On Tuesday, German police
[00:13.72]broke up a protest by several hundred
[00:17.28]pro-Palestinian protesters
[00:20.16]at Berlin's Free University (FU).
[00:25.96]The protesters had put up
[00:28.52]about 20 tents and formed
[00:31.36]a human chain around the tents.
[00:34.68]Most of the protesters
[00:37.04]wore the familiar Palestinian head covering
[00:40.92]called a kufiyah.
[00:43.44]The school's administrators said in a statement
[00:47.44]that the protesters had rejected any dialogue.
[00:52.52]They said some of the protesters
[00:55.04]tried to occupy classrooms and buildings.
[00:58.36]Administrators called in the police
[01:01.56]to clear the campus.
[01:03.40]"This form of protest
[01:05.52]is not geared towards dialogue.
[01:08.24]An occupation is not acceptable
[01:11.12]on the FU Berlin campus,"
[01:14.04]said university president Guenter Ziegler.
[01:19.00]Police used a chemical spray against the protesters
[01:22.96]and carried some of them away
[01:25.48]after clashes broke out.
[01:29.24]At the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands,
[01:32.88]Dutch police arrested about 125 activists
[01:38.00]as they broke up a pro-Palestinian demonstration camp.
[01:42.72]Amsterdam police said on the social media service X
[01:47.64]that their action was "necessary to restore order"
[01:51.88]after protests turned violent.
[01:55.48]There were no immediate reports of injuries.
[02:00.32]Video aired by the Dutch national broadcaster NOS
[02:04.88]shows police using equipment to knock down barriers.
[02:09.92]Video also showed officers carrying sticks
[02:13.72]and beating some protesters.
[02:17.24]The University of Amsterdam said in a statement
[02:20.96]that police ended the demonstration
[02:23.96]"due to public order and safety concerns."
[02:27.84]"The war between Israel and Hamas
[02:31.48]is having a major impact on individual students
[02:35.20]and staff," the statement said.
[02:38.16]"We share the anger and bewilderment
[02:41.32]over the war, and we understand
[02:44.44]that there are protests over it.
[02:47.56]We stress that within the university,
[02:50.56]dialogue about it is the only answer."
[02:55.40]Students have also held protests
[02:58.20]or set up encampments in Finland, Denmark,
[03:01.92]Italy, Spain, France and Britain.
[03:05.92]The protesters say they are against Israel's offensive
[03:10.80]in the Palestinian territory of Gaza,
[03:14.16]which started in late October 2023.
[03:18.44]Israel started the war in reaction to a terrorist attack
[03:23.72]by Hamas that killed about 1,200 people
[03:29.28]in southern Israel on October 7.
[03:34.00]The war has destroyed
[03:35.84]much of the Palestinian territory of Gaza.
[03:39.40]Gaza's health ministry,
[03:42.00]which is run by Hamas,
[03:44.52]says about 35,000 Palestinians have been killed.
[03:51.64]In Finland, protesters
[03:54.20]from the Students for Palestine group
[03:56.92]set up an encampment outside the main building
[04:01.04]at the University of Helsinki.
[04:03.60]The group members said they would stay there
[04:06.68]until the university cuts ties with Israeli schools.
[04:12.12]In Denmark, students set up
[04:15.32]a pro-Palestinian encampment
[04:18.24]at the University of Copenhagen.
[04:21.64]The university said students can protest
[04:25.40]but called on them to respect the rules
[04:28.44]on campus grounds.
[04:31.08]On their Facebook page,
[04:33.08]members of the activist group
[04:35.08]Students Against the Occupation
[04:37.60]said attempts to talk to the administration
[04:41.00]over the past two years
[04:43.16]about ending investment
[04:45.00]and ties in Israel have not gone anywhere.
[04:50.36]In Italy, students at the University of Bologna
[04:54.64]set up a tent encampment over the weekend
[04:58.88]to demand an end to the war in Gaza.
[05:03.16]Students organized similar protests in Rome
[05:06.92]and Naples, which were largely peaceful.
[05:11.92]In Spain, students have spent over a week
[05:15.12]at a pro-Palestinian encampment
[05:18.12]on the University of Valencia campus.
[05:22.20]Students set up similar camps on Monday
[05:25.88]at the University of Barcelona
[05:28.88]and the University of the Basque Country.
[05:33.44]In Paris, French police peacefully removed
[05:37.64]several students last week
[05:39.92]from the Paris Institute of Political Studies
[05:43.72]after they had gathered in support of Palestinians.
[05:47.84]Protests also took place last week
[05:51.64]at other universities in France,
[05:54.56]including in Lille and Lyon.
[05:58.72]Meanwhile, protests continue
[06:01.12]at colleges across the United States.
[06:04.16]Several universities have had to cancel
[06:07.96]their main commencement ceremonies.
[06:10.68]And students at the University of Michigan
[06:13.96]and Indiana University
[06:16.36]interrupted commencement ceremonies
[06:19.48]over the weekend.

END OF TRACK. "END OF TRACK." The two men bowed. "Whoever was that person you were talking to?" she enquired, as soon as they stood together. The took of triumph faded from her eyes, she had grown worn and weary. The roses were wilting on the walls, the lights were mostly down now. Hetty, looking in to see if anything was wanted, found herself driven away almost fiercely. I only saw Master Jervie once when he called at tea time, The year 1747 was opened by measures of restriction. The House of Lords, offended at the publication of the proceedings of the trial of Lord Lovat, summoned the parties to their bar, committed them to prison, and refused to liberate them till they had pledged themselves not to repeat the offence, and had paid very heavy fees. The consequence of this was that the transactions of the Peers were almost entirely suppressed for nearly thirty years from this time, and we draw our knowledge of them chiefly from notes taken by Horace Walpole and Lord Chancellor Hardwicke. What is still more remarkable, the reports of the House of Commons, being taken by stealth, and on the merest sufferance, are of the most meagre kind, sometimes altogether wanting, and the speeches are given uniformly under fictitious names; for to have attributed to Pitt or Pelham their[112] speeches by name would have brought down on the printers the summary vengeance of the House. Many of the members complained bitterly of this breach of the privileges of Parliament, and of "being put into print by low fellows"; but Pelham had the sense to tolerate them, saying, "Let them alone; they make better speeches for us than we can make for ourselves." Altogether, the House of Commons exhibited the most deplorable aspect that can be conceived. The Ministry had pursued Walpole's system of buying up opponents by place, or pension, or secret service money, till there was no life left in the House. Ministers passed their measures without troubling themselves to say much in their behalf; and the opposition dwindled to Sir John Hinde Cotton, now dismissed from office, and a feeble remnant of Jacobites raised but miserable resistance. In vain the Prince of Wales and the secret instigations of Bolingbroke and Doddington stimulated the spirit of discontent; both Houses had degenerated into most silent and insignificant arenas of very commonplace business. "It certainly will be. Miss Widgeon," answered Maria, with strictly "company manners." "One who has never had a brother exposed to the constant dangers of army life can hardly understand how glad we all feel to have Si snatched from the very jaws of death and brung back to us." "Just plug at 'em as you would at a crow, and then go on your way whistlin'?" persisted Harry. "Hurroo!" echoed Hennessey; "that's the ticket." "Come forward, keeper," continued the baron, "and state how these arrows came into your hands!" "Yes." HoMEJULIA京香2018下载
